Jajce Slapovi / Waterfall

In the heart of central Bosnia and Herzegovina, the town of Jajce is home to one of Europe’s most unusual and beautiful natural landmarks: the spectacular waterfall of the Pliva River.
Pliva Waterfall is located right in the center of town, where the crystal-clear Pliva River dramatically plunges about 20 meters into the Vrbas River below. What makes it especially striking is its setting—this is not a remote natural site, but a powerful waterfall framed by medieval streets, historic buildings, and a scenic old town perched above it.
Visiting the waterfall feels like stepping into a living postcard. From the viewing platforms, you can watch torrents of turquoise water crashing down into mist below, while the sound echoes through the valley. The contrast between the raw force of nature and the centuries-old town around it gives Jajce a very distinctive charm.
Just a short walk from the waterfall, visitors can explore cobbled streets, Ottoman-era architecture, and nearby attractions like the medieval fortress overlooking the town. The area is especially beautiful in spring and early summer when the river is at its fullest, but it remains impressive year-round.
Jajce’s waterfall is often described as one of the few places in the world where a major waterfall sits directly inside a town center—making it a must-see stop for travelers exploring Bosnia and Herzegovina.
