The Women’s Association “Vrba” was founded in 2018 in Gnojnice, near Mostar, with the aim of empowering women socially and economically while preserving and passing on the rich traditions of Herzegovina.

Through its activities, the association has established an informal center for the preservation of traditional skills, where workshops, educational activities and gatherings are regularly organized. The goal is to ensure that traditional skills do not become merely a part of the past, but are preserved and passed on to future generations.

“Vrba” regularly welcomes visitors from all over Europe, both in small and larger groups. Visits are tailored to the interests and size of each group, giving guests the opportunity to discover Herzegovina through personal encounters with local women who keep its traditions alive.

A special part of the experience is traditional Herzegovinian cuisine – homemade dishes and sweets prepared according to old family recipes – accompanied by stories about the lives, customs and everyday experiences of women in Herzegovina, both in the past and today.

For interested groups, we also organize hands-on workshops featuring traditional crafts and skills, including:

• weaving on a traditional handloom,
• gold embroidery,
• traditional hand embroidery,
• crocheting and knitting,
• making decorative and practical items using traditional techniques.

“Vrba” is a place where women from the local community, visitors, young people and members of the diaspora come together. It is a place where Herzegovina’s heritage is preserved through homemade food, traditional crafts, conversation and friendship.
