Origins of Mostar

  • Mostar began as a small settlement in the 15th century near a crossing over the Neretva River.
  • Its name comes from “mostari” (bridge keepers) who guarded the crossing.

Construction of Stari Most (16th Century)

  • Built in 1566 during the rule of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent.
